The life of field-marshal von
Mackensen practically covered a century. Indeed, he lived 95 years under four
regimes: been born in 1849 in Prussia he died in 1945 in the ruins of the
nazi Germany. He is the pure product and the symbol of the Prussian soldiery
whose fidelity sworn to his emperor has been steady. This long article (be
